This species is endemic to the Azores Islands (Portugal), where it is found in Sete Cidades on Sao Miguel, in all types of forested habitats, including plantations. It also shows preference for scrubby damp habitats. The species is unlikely to be threatened by disturbance, as it is tolerant to a wide range of ecological conditions. This species is assessed as Near Threatened (NT) as, if any threats accelerate, it could rapidly become Vulnerable.
