Robert Cameron obtained his B.A. at Oxford in 1964, and his Ph.D. at Manchester in 1968. He is an honorary professor of evolutionary biology at the University of Sheffield, and an Associate at the Natural History Museum in London. He specialises in the ecology and evolution of land molluscs. He has worked extensively on Madeira and in the Azores, and is now engaged on the Quaternary fauna of the Deserta Islands (Madeira). He has contributed to Red List assessment of mollusc species on these islands for IUCN. He is the author/co-author of more than 100 papers on land molluscs, and has written keys to identification, and a book on the natural history of slugs and snails.
