Martina is conducting a Ph.D. in Biodiversity, Genetics and Evolution by the University of Lisbon starting in March 2018 within the Tropical and Mediterranean Biodiversity Group of cE3C. Her research went from studying Carabidae beetles in Italy to investigating the ecology and distribution of African giant land snail in São Tomé Island. She is currently developing a project that focus on the conservation of the threatened Gulf of Guinea giant land snail in São Tomé. She is interested in studying the malacological fauna of São Tomé and Príncipe and, specifically, how land snail communities can vary across gradients of habitat degradation.
