Laura has a BSc. in Conservation Biology and MSc. in Botany and Environmental Science. Her career is a combination of Botany and bee studies, incorporating taxonomy of tropical plants, palynology, pollination ecology and studies about stingless bee biodiversity and beekeeping. She has previously worked with bees in a variety of contexts and locations, including floral resources uses by bees, and beekeeping community projects in Brazilian Islands and in São Tomé and Príncipe. Currently, she is working with Fauna & Flora International based on Príncipe Island, supporting a local NGO (Fundação Príncipe). Its main projects in Príncipe are the botanical programme (inventories, taxonomy, Red Listing and reforestation) and implementation of sustainable beekeeping. For the coming years, Laura expects to start studies on pollination ecology of trees in Príncipe
