There is not enough information to assess the conservation status of this species. Further research is needed to clarify whether this species is extinct or whether there are fragmented subpopulations left. It is therefore listed as Data Deficient (DD).
This species is endemic to the island of La Palma. Wollaston (1878) reported it to be frequent in the central and higher forests of La Palma; it was found by found by him and also by Lowe at the Cumbre above Buenavista, Bco. above Sta. Cruz, Bco. De Agua, Bco. De Galga, El Monte above Barlovento. This species was not subsequently found by Groh nor by Ibanez (pers. comm. 2011), and has probably gone extinct.
